Daily 5 - Read to Self

In reading time we are using the Daily 5 programme to help us improve our reading skills.

One part of Daily 5 is Read To Self. We know it is important to read to ourselves regularly and to use our read to self time to practise our reading.

Check out how we do read to self - can you see us:

Choosing a good spot to read in
Using our book boxes so we don't have to move around

Exploring our world - Local Heroes

Today we started looking at our new topic - Exploring our world - our community.

We are looking at the people we think are heroes in our community.

First we had a think about what we think heroes are...

Then we read a story about Sir Edmund Hillary and discovered that he wasn't a hero for climbing Mt Everest but because of all the other things he did to help the sherpas and their community.

We came up with these things to help us decide who is a hero then we thought about the people in our community that are heroes.

We think heroes - help people and animals, make things better, see a need and do something about it, are role models.

Tayla's Healthy Food Review

Tayla has made a form for us all to think about what we thought of our healthy food topic! She made this independently at home - what a great thinker! She is really showing what a self-managing learner is!

Autumn
Autumn feels like the air going through
the breeze.
I feel the hot air.
Autumn smells like the fresh air from
the rivers. I feel the clover moving against
the grass.
Autumn looks like the trees blowing
together. I look at the future.
Autumn sounds like the loud footsteps of
people running around the playground.
I hear the airplanes.

      Summer
Have you ever felt summer?
Sure you have
Remember that time…
When you were  jumping on the tramp with the sprinklers on and you lost your breath and ran to get some water then you ran back and lay down on the tramp.
Remember how the water dripping on you felt?
That was summer.

Remember that time…
When you were doing cartwheels and fell over. Remember how the grass felt?
That was summer.

Remember that time…
when you were so tired and just had to go inside and tuck up with a good book.
Remember how the sun glowing on you felt?
That was summer.

 Sharkicorn
Sharkicorn is a shark mixed with a unicorn. You may think this will be a peaceful animal but it is an angry animal, it could kill you in one bite so don’t go near it. It could bite 100 bits of metal in one go.  The sharkicorn has rainbow coloured skin, its teeth are as sharp as a knife. It has smooth soggy wet skin. It has 10000 lives. The creature could sniff something 10000 kilometres  away. It smells like a rotten banana. The Sharkicorn lives in Greenland it comes out at night. It’s favourite food is chops. The Sharkicorn could run faster than a cheetah but it is color blind. It’s claws are so sharp it could rip through a sheet of steel. Its magical unicorn horn shoots rainbow lasers which could evaporate any thing. It can breath underwater.
