Healthy Lunch...
Have a look at this great poem Tayla D wrote - she used Kenn Nesbitt's poem "A Funny Food Poem" as a model.
Healthy lunch poem
An orange nectarine
A muesli bar
A bright red apple
A brown banana will rot by far
A big juicy orange
A berry milkshake
A little baby pear
Totally not steak
Some fresh OJ
A fun avocado
Some juicy jam
A tasty tomato
A pointy pear
A banana for brunch
That's something not to share
I slept in while Mum made lunch

Rubber Egg!
We have been looking at a few science experiments for our Home Learning.
Check out the Bouncing Egg experiment that Harry did - he took it a bit further to see if there was a difference between water and vinegar and their effect on the egg.

Egg-citing science!!
Today we tried out a science eggsperiment - floating eggs! We are learning to write explanations and draw scientific diagrams to explain our thinking about WHY or HOW we think something happened.
Check back later to see our labelled diagrams to find out what the eggsperiment actually was - can you work it out from our photos?

Daily 5 - Read to Someone
Read to someone is another way for us to improve our reading. Reading out loud is a great way for us to improve our fluency - the flow and expression of our reading.
We read with a biddy and our buddy is there to be our coach - help us if we get stuck! But our buddy isn't just allowed to give us the answer - they have to help by giving us time to work out the word on our own and then suggesting ways that we could use to work out our words.
We are getting really good at reading to our buddies - we make sure we are in our own space and that we can both read the book. We also make sure we take turns and listen carefully to our buddy so that we can help them if we need to.

Daily 5 - Read to Self
In reading time we are using the Daily 5 programme to help us improve our reading skills.
One part of Daily 5 is Read To Self. We know it is important to read to ourselves regularly and to use our read to self time to practise our reading.

Exploring our world - Local Heroes
Today we started looking at our new topic - Exploring our world - our community.
We are looking at the people we think are heroes in our community.
First we had a think about what we think heroes are...

Then we read a story about Sir Edmund Hillary and discovered that he wasn't a hero for climbing Mt Everest but because of all the other things he did to help the sherpas and their community.
We came up with these things to help us decide who is a hero then we thought about the people in our community that are heroes.

We think heroes - help people and animals, make things better, see a need and do something about it, are role models.

Autumn
Autumn feels like the air going through
the breeze.
I feel the hot air.
Autumn smells like the fresh air from
the rivers. I feel the clover moving against
the grass.
Autumn looks like the trees blowing
together. I look at the future.
Autumn sounds like the loud footsteps of
people running around the playground.
I hear the airplanes.

Summer
Have you ever felt summer?
Sure you have
Remember that time…
When you were jumping on the tramp with the sprinklers on and you lost your breath and ran to get some water then you ran back and lay down on the tramp.
Remember how the water dripping on you felt?
That was summer.
Remember that time…
When you were doing cartwheels and fell over. Remember how the grass felt?
That was summer.
Remember that time…
when you were so tired and just had to go inside and tuck up with a good book.
Remember how the sun glowing on you felt?
That was summer.By Tayla D
Sharkicorn
Sharkicorn is a shark mixed with a unicorn. You may think this will be a peaceful animal but it is an angry animal, it could kill you in one bite so don’t go near it. It could bite 100 bits of metal in one go. The sharkicorn has rainbow coloured skin, its teeth are as sharp as a knife. It has smooth soggy wet skin. It has 10000 lives. The creature could sniff something 10000 kilometres away.It smells like a rotten banana. The Sharkicorn lives in Greenland it comes out at night. It’s favourite food is chops. The Sharkicorn could run faster than a cheetah but it is color blind. It’s claws are so sharp it could rip through a sheet of steel. Its magical unicorn horn shoots rainbow lasers which could evaporate any thing. It can breath underwater.By Henry B

Have a look at all of us hard at work keeping up with all of the tweets.

Room 20 - what did you think about our first KidsEdChatNZ session? Think carefully about what went well, what surprised you and what you think we should do differently. Post your answer on the Padlet below.
